@Toddy
Best use for it!
We all had those. I used to get my knuckles rapped by various aunts for dipping the handles into the washing up water. Several of them were loose.

As for the OP - I can only think that some people have a very very bad need to open their post.

To this day I never leave a knife sitting in water :)

We actually use a set of butter knives in that style every day, and they're pristine for all that they must be pre WW2.
They're much better knives than the modern ones.....and the forks of that period have proper tines, that actually stab into food, not chunked out by machine and called done.

Or they need a heck of a defence agin the contents .....

Someplace we have some very old ones that are Ivory :sad: but usually they're some kind of fake plastic made to look like bone. Surprising how long they've lasted well.
I don't think it's casein or galalith.

I have a few in "Ivorene" (early plastic) and some in bone ... the first iterations of Stainless steel were excellent and I have turned some into very useful crafting knives, such as detail carvers, and ... desk knives!
My letter opener is a double edged "dagger" made from an old file ....

Actually, I've decided to buy one of these

And burn a stack of £50 notes in my fire pit instead

Don’t rule out the Rockstead, remember we get a 7% discount with BCUK.

If I was confident it would increase in value as a collector's piece I might be tempted. In the way one might view an expensive watch for example. Chances are it'll be banned by the government before it appreciably appreciates.
