Hey all, any details of the Cowslose Wood, i know roughly where it is but dont have any details. id like to know what its like, for family camping, and also a bigish group. im thinking about a small tent for the wife and wee man, tarp for me and tents / tarps for the other people, maybe a total of 10 people all together...

is there drinking water there, is there a lake there, what wood types are there, how much fire wood is there...?????

many thanks

Eyup Chris, hope you an family are keeping well.

Its sound for family camping if you can secure one of the prepared spots. As for a large group, you might be struggling to be in one area, but there are a couple of areas close to each other though. Not done much exploring since first visit, so Gaz may be able to clue you up more. There's no tap, but the stream is pretty clean but runs to a trickle in dry spells. There's no lake (maybe one local) wood wise, plenty of firewood, either bought from Gaz as logs etc or plenty of dead standing and laying. Lots of Pine, Rowan, Ash, Sycamore, Birch, Hazel, and a few less common like Oak, Holly etc. Different sections of the woods have different qualities.

Plenty of bird song, odd badger, deer, stoats etc for watching / tracking . Just keep a check on ticks. We picked up one each this weekend.
Its a great place to bivi or hang, small tents are sound, may struggle with large ones.

Hi Lannyman, don't know if it's any use to you as it's about an hour further away than Cowclose but Marthrown of Mabie is by all accounts pretty spectacular and should be able to fit your requirements. (No affiliations - Have just heard from others who've been and have spoken to them on the phone about hiring the roundhouse and they seem lovely folk).
