Went on a lovely walk in Wales today, following the courses of a number of Waterfalls. The day was clear and reasonably dry, the water was stunning, crystal clear, and fast flowing.

It was only as we approached the source of one of the rivers that we noticed a dead sheep bang in the centre of the stream.

Salutary lesson in why we cant assume the water is clean.

Apologies if the picture upsets, but I think you'll get the point.

Many years ago, I was lucky enough to go on an outwards bound course, and that was the very first lesson we were taught. Don’t drink the water from streams unless you know what is "up" stream of you.

We were walking cross the peat moors of ‘searching’ for the source of the River Severn (Plynlimon) and the mountain streams all looked pure and inviting until we walked about half a mile up stream and found two dead lambs hung up on a wire fence crossing the “pure fresh “ stream
