Cockchaffer

Ah yes, that season when the bugs fly...it makes me think of 'those magnificent men in their flying machines', these cockchafers have to be in less control than the leather jackets/daddy long legs. Wait till I tell my wife they are early...she hates them!

Mine turned up on June 30th last year - they might not be cockchafers though
as there seem to be lots of chafer types. The ones where I live looked like
brown mint humbugs and, in flight, something like the snitch from Harry Potter.

I'm too scared to walk home when they're in full swarm around the tops of
trees and the bus stops as they'll have you as you go past  They're mean.

Mine are either lazy or they're 'June bugs' as pretty much every evening
in May and June last year I walked around Blackheath in the early evening
to dusk-ish (not exact timings!) to see when they showed up and not a thing
from them until June 30th.

There seem to be plenty of them about:

I'm quite excited about seeing them again this year... but still scared of them.
