Not sure what post it was, but I recently made one with a hood on it. If you want some pics let me know and I'll pm them to you... I'm sure someone will find the post you wanted though!

If you fancy something Vikingish then I can e-mail some info I found on the net (but lost the link to) and based my hoodie on - see my Avatar. Made from a Dutch Army Blanket!

Alright Jan

I'll take some pics this weekend and send them on to you. I did a coat out of a blanket to go over a technical jacket so I spent a bit of time on the hood. Might work for you, you can be the judge when you see them...

Post them on the forum Chad.

I'm that there'd be quite a few folks interested in seeing the grand job you did making your coat.

I've got the North West Traders Capote Pattern for 3.5 and 4 point blankets. it covers 8 styles and sizes 32 to 54 inch chest if you'd like to borrow it? I'm planning on making one in the new year.

I've got a shop bought Capote from Smoke and Fire (cost the wife a bomb as it was made from a new dark green and black Whitney 4 pointer) and they are wonderful bits of kit. I've slept under it a couple of times and wrapped the kids inside of it when they were smaller.

If tha wants to borrow it PM me and I'll get it off ASAP. Theres a set of tissue tracings for the aborted 44 inch chest version I started making before I porked out. If they are the right size your welcome to keep those.

Sorry for the delay, I got these pics taken today and look a right Chachi! This is all hand stitched with dental floss for the main seams and brown cobbler's thread everywhere else. Antler bits for buttons on the map pocket and some eyelets were all I added to the blanket.

I did this a bit big to go over a snugpak jacket, the hood looks right when it's got that underneath to fill it out unlike on these pics. I didn't have any patterns, just laid an old hoodie on the folded blanket and started cutting. I figured racing stripes were the way forward on the hood! It wasn't hard to do at all, just time consuming without a machine. It took two packs of Dylon dye to get this colour, that was the expensive part! I gave it a hot wash to shrink it before anything and when it was finished I soaked it in lukewarm water with baby oil in it in hopes of shedding water. It seems to have worked, not as good as lanolin though...

Thanks to Mesquite for selling me some blankets and Addo for the post he did that inspired me to make my own. They are cheap and easily done to your own specs, if anyone is thinking about having a go then git er done!!!

I'm halfway through a wool blanket shirt/tunic. I'm thinking about making a capote too. My idea is to buy a hooded dressing gown from somewhere cheap like Matalan, TKMax, or Target and unpick it for a pattern. Otherwise I'm finding sizing is not as easy as it looks, definately a doable project though. Another thing you might want to do is to get an old charity shop or cheapo fleece blanket to do a dry run and use as a pattern.
