Vivitar 283 is a very good flash for macro - especially as it has a manual module - I made up a reflector card, with the manually-flashmeter-checked exposures, F-stops, & distances written on the back of it it = PERFECT EXPOSURE EVERY TIME (essential for pro industrial work with E6 slides)

While the Vivitar 283 was a great piece of kit (I had one) owners of digital cameras need to be cautious of using old flashguns as they can damage some DSLR's

I have a speedlite already. I mean the macro attachment on the front of the camera. Which now that I check is a Raynox. I meant Raynox, not Vivitar. Sorry for the confusion.

Last weeks finds when I was trying out a possible holiday macro set up. I am trying to keep the size of my camera kit quite small when I go on holiday to Canada in summer. I of course want to be able to shoot macro if I get the time. I need a smaller light set up I think.

The lens and tubes pack small but the diffuser and flash do not.

We all have to start somewhere though... If it starts you off on an interesting and worthwhile hobby then go for it... Most of my stuff so far is no where near Alf's but I find the whole thing enjoyable if not a little frustrating at times.
