Why do these things fail at the worst time?

Like, when Im crossing the road??

Anyhow, aside for a few scuffs all is well, but I need to replace the clips.

Would solid brass be strongest? Bear in mind I will be carrying up to a handful of books and a laptop.

It's strong enough for saddlery and harness, you'd need to be toting a lot of books to overload it.

I have entrusted a leather satchel containing laptop and books to brass clips before, I prefer them to the cheap dog clips or clips made out of wire.
