cleaning old cast iron pans

any idea of a simple way to clean rust and gunk form an old cast iron pan?


Shot blasting springs to mind - got to be easier than scrubbing and sanding.

give em a scrape with a wire brush and then chuck em in the fire?

Blast it! Everything that can, should be shot blast!

put them in a hot fire, its a very good way to de-carbonise things

Hi.When I used to work in kitchens we used to clean cast iron pans with salt then put a light layer of cooking oil in and burn it in the oven to re-condition the pan.or just chuck it on yer fire
