Household bleach diluted and rinced or2 stage water purifiers, to get scum from it cut up a flat green scourer into small pieces, fairy and shake with the lid on for a few minutes!
Milton tablets. I have been using them to clean the kids bottles. I break one tablet in half and fill bottle to the brim with aired water. Leave the cap off in case it expands and stand overnight. If needed another half tablet for one more night.
The tablets can also be taken out with you if you need to clean a bottle in the field.

Why thank you, you must have found bottle brushes didn't cut it either especially on wide bodied bottles, what's the budgie grit like ?. The pieces about an inch square and only a drop of water
You can use denture cleaning tablets as well. A lot cheaper. Just drop one in and shake about, then leave like you would do yer teeth....

You may have had green hairy tongue.
You need one of those things on the back of your toothbrush.
I've always wondered about those things on the back of a toothbrush. The actual brush part is far better for the job.
