Cleanig Canvas Backpack

I have an old canvas pack which smells very musty, it had leather straps too. What would be the best way to clean and freshen the bag.

I'd probably stick it in a bucket with some Persil and leave it overnight, then rinse it out the next day.

But then again SWMBO does the cleaning so I'd probably just ask her to do it
