Chromium Oxide

I've always used jeweller's rouge on my strop, put some good quality honing oil on the leather and then "stick" the rouge evenly to that...............I've recently got access to green, very fine powdered Chromium Oxide and as it's time to make a new strop I thought I'd give this a go. Anybody have any experience of this stuff?.................atb mac
