"AVIATOR
One of the most popular knives in the one piece range, the Aviator offers strength and fine edge retention with a sawing facility. The teeth are designed to offer versatility rather than excellence in any one task--they can be used to saw most material, although none perfectly. This 4" bladed knife is well suited for rescue or para-medical kits and pilots or light aircraft or helicopters.
Overall Length: 8.00" 203 mm
Blade Length: 4.00" 101 mm
Weight: 5.5 oz. 155 g
Each knife is made from a solid billet of A2 tool steel. The stock removal method results in two distinct advantages--the strength/weight ratio is exceptional and there is no handle/blade join. This means that there is no area where the blade and handle could come apart--a weakness in the design of other hollow handle knives. The handle cavity is larger than that of any similar knife. The hollow handle is closed with a butt cap made of 6061 aluminum which screws into the handle against a Neoprene "O" ring, ensuring the cavity is sealed from dust and moisture. All the one piece knives are hardened to 55-57 RC and a random check is made to ensure accuracy. This hardness gives superb toughness, good edge retention and allows for efficient sharpening in the field. Each knife is coated with super hi-tech Kalgard®, originally developed for use in the aerospace industry. This coating offers a durable, long-lasting, non-reflective covering. Included in the price of each knife is a hand-made leather sheath. "
So this is an original Chris Reeve Aviator which is quite the Collector Piece , Its the older model when Chris was working from South Africa before moving to the States. The Blade is stamped with the S/N and with 'Made In S.A' on it. The Hex nut also indicates as the new American Models have a rounded But cap. Also feature the Pancake Sheath.
I have no original paperwork with this but have been in touch with the Chris Reeve factory who will happily provide that service ( along with a clean and sharpening ) and provide the Serial Number related paperwork for the Collector.
