Just thought this might interest a few of the "old timers" here
I just described "chopping sticks" and "a kindling knife" to someone and they had no idea what I was talking about . If anyone here hasn't seen one of these - they used to be seen regularly with the old farmers wives getting the Rayburn / Aga / Stanley going. Use a smal axe to chop a log into 1" short planks and then take your knidling kife to them a la Gordon Ramsey. 1/4" spills, screw of newspaper and voila.
Crude as hell stick tang in an old chisel handle. a good 1/4" thick blade ground on gawd knows what - but they work in their niche really well!
Nothing to do with Bushcraft but it might interest those who like Jack Hargreaves
