What a fascinating tool. (I had to look it up, never heard of one.)
I can see why you’d want to have a go with one but is it really any better than a splitting mall?

Don't do it.
Do they work... yes.ish.
But there are caveats.
Need to hit the log at the same angle, every time. Log needs to be wide enough for it to engage, every time... They need cleaning out a lot... a chip of wood in the mechanism... not gonna work as intended... etc etc etc.
They do work, but like a pretty girl with a nice bottom and big boobs....high maintenance.
