I don't know about the wild service trees around you, but both ( 
) of the trees that I know of have lovely dark red and well ablated berries on them at the moment and I've just scoffed a couple fo dozen of them - spicy, sweetish strong flavoured goodness.
Kids and wife spat them out though, wimps!
