Scats and other farm shops sell cometas for about a ton. If not couldn't you just borrow one?

My dad has a cometa 50 ( i think) hes selling and at that distance is more than capable. Its .177 IIRC and i could get 10 shot groups under a 5p at 15 meters with it. Its only about 10ft/lb so ideal for closer range stuff. It has a scope with it too.
We have problems every two or three years, three or four of these, wack on the peanut butter, put bodies in the bin; Squidders its a lot easier than sitting there with a rifle mate.

Even with a top of the range air rifle getting clean kills on rats is hard. I've shot thousands of rabbits with a tiny percentage wounded, of the dozen or so rats I've shot, only one was an outright clean kill. If you do get an air rifle a clean.25 cal is the best calibre for rats.

Wow - do you have a link to them at that price please? I could do with some more but they are double that round here!
Cheers all, much food for thought, especially the offer of a loan. I do hate to borrow things though, in case it gets damaged while in my care... I'm a careful person but poop happens.
i used to kill rats when i was a lad with a black widow catapult and a bag of marbles and i never recall any getting up from the first shot.
It's not really about fun... If I use poison our retarded cat will probably eat the rat and be very ill or worse. And I don't like spring traps as they can easily just get other critters.

Their mark 4 trap is ok, not as good as a Fenn but works well enough.
