i have stitched a strip of velcro round my shieth and it holds the fire steel very well its also attached to a loop of para cord for hanging round neck and shoulder if needed which is wrapped round before the steel is strapped by the velcro

Viking why not stitch a leather loop onto your sheath - its easy to do.

Dampen the leather before stitching and use a contact adhesive to make sure it stays around the sheath.

Those who saw my wildfinn Puukko at the wilderness gathering will know what i mean.

I use the inner tube trick, but quickly discovered that two were needed. With just one piece of tube over the kydex sheath of my F1 there wasn't enough grip and the tension in the tube would push the firesteel back up. Two layers of innder tube make it harder to push the firesteel into place, but the extra tackiness/friction seems to grip solidly. Mind you I've also covered the handle fo the firesteel with bright yellow tape......

If I'm not using the F1 then the firesteel lives in my tinder pouch..

Cheers
Justin

I have made a firesteel holder now, going to test it this weekend to see if it works. The image quality is bad I know...

I don´t think it´s the Kellam Lapp Puukko, i bought it from a swedish version of e-bay. It says Lappin puukko on the sheath and on the knife.

Maybe Stuart can tell if its the same or not...

A better picture of the knife

Hmm no not a lapp puukko, but almost identical though this is not unusual as the lapp puuko is just a traditional design used by the Sami

the flared bit of leather at the end of the sheath is for holding the sheath still when drawing the knife whilst wearing mittens
