Canoeing and Kayaking on the Helix Lagoon

I was volunteering at the launch event for a new urban park, the HELIX, between Falkirk and Grangemouth. Sunny warm day and clean water on the lagoon. A few thousand people came. We only had 50 folk out at a time. Had to turn away a few hundred. Free taster sessions for kayaking and canoeing.

It was advertised locally for a month and it had a 10sec slot on the beeb news on friday night. After 4pm people drifted away, ironically all the arty stuff and bands kept going till six. It's cultural in this country to leave at that time. Most people could not believe the sessions were free.

Aye. Went for an explore at 9.15am, very wet but certainly an unusual park. Feels more like a Plaza or city square.
