After we did all our homestead solar setup, I was recently contacted by a chap called Brian Shingleton who owns Nagonic Designs. Think Trevor Bayliss meets Professor Proton ;). Anyway Brian is an engineer who designs solar systems for mobile use - camping, van life, narrow boats etc. You can see a lot of his stuff at www.nagonicdesign.com

He paid us a visit and brought us some fascinating equipment to try out. One setup packs up really small but is remarkably powerful. I could see myself using it for charging camera batteries etc. when out filming but it would be also really good for longer term camps in one location.

What do you think?

Watched the full video. Ticks a lot of boxes and appears to work well. As it a prototype I agree he needs a production engineer to deal with the conduit stand. It's engineering but inelegant, slow and parts intensive.

Readouts on electrical items, even cheap torches, are now coming with OLED colour panels with super legible and clear information on charging status.

The Anderson plugs seem to be big in Australia and the US but I suppose it's a VHS/Betamax stage in adoption across the world.

What is proprietary in that whole set-up is my only question?

I have to say I liked the Anderson plugs. Easier to connect & disconnect & twin wire. Trouble is nearly every power station uses MC4. As you say, Betamax was better but every video store had mostly VHS!

I believe the designs & specs are Brian's own but I'm sure the components are common
