Depends what you mean by 'cooking with'.

If you're thinking of putting them in mash or cabbage like you would add a knob of ordinary butter they are fine, but no good where you'd want the fat content of butter.

It's about half the calories of butter. Just thon's a tiny wee sachet of powdery stuff.....You'd almost be better taking along grated parmesan.

Yeah i just looke at the link again. maybe I'm remembering mine wrong. Still a bit confused though. The info in the bottom is as you list (388 kilocalories) whereas in the main ad it list 10 calories.

So isn't a satchet supposed to be the same amount you'd substitute for a serving of butter. I know the weight of a satchet might not be the same as a serving of butter but that the flavor added should be.

Your camping, butter buds taste good on spuds, you ain't going to use it everyday, don't worry about it; I'm confident if people were dropping dead from using a few sachets it would make headline FCOL

I have had the misfortune of having real butter melt inside my rucksack on a hot summers day, so I can see the advantage of the butter buds, go nice with the cadburies smash I bet.
