airsofters (as they are known) do it because they know that at the ned of the day they can go home even though they have been shot. Some of the guys in the picture dont look old enough to shave yet. whats with desert kit in the woods?

it's probbably just army surplus kit, i don't understand the problem with thew age though? Surely teaching people respect for weapons and at the same time keeping young people busy and entertained is a good thiong?

I cant really see how you teach people respect for weapons in a 'hobby' where you use them to shoot at each other. I went paintballing once, it was a laugh but there was no posing about with realistic looking weapons pretending to be soldiers. I personally feel that it is wrong to immitate soldiers, however harmless if you have not been in the mob and earned the right to - it is also a criminal offence if you wear unit insignia, para jump wings etc. as some of those airsoft types do. In my opinion the whole thing is very 'Walter Mitty', but each to their own I suppose. If you want to look and act like a soldier join the armed forces, with all the implications that it involves. Sorry lads, I have taken this thread off course, and I am not even from Essex! (although I did live in Chelmsford for three years)

Right. Good news after weeks of trying to get hold of the owner and being fobed off by the site manager saying he will call me back I went to the site and got hold of him.

The man say yes. as long as we give a bit of notice as the area we can use may be used for Lazer tag games. He also said they have a marshal who works for him that was on the Castaway show and they are thinking of starting up there own "Bushcraft/survival" courses.

If you PM me I will give out my number and we can see if we can get a meet in before the end of the year.

Hi
Just taken up an interest in Bushcraft with my young son and would be
very interested in this as we live just a mile or so away.
did anything come of your enquiries?

cheers
Paul

I know the owner of a large wood near Billericay it is total private land and half of it is used for the Skirmish essex paintball and airsoft site. the other half is not used for anything. Was thinking of asking to use it for training for my ACF detachment aswell. If enough people are up for it I can approach him and ask, he may want a small fee for the use as on the site he does have running water and toilets (if thats what you want) plus total CCTV for the site and carpark so cars left will be secure. PM me or reply here.

Dates dependant I would be interested, as would another forum member if he wasn't so busy lurking.

I don't live in essex and my bushcraft has a lot to be desired but really wanna get some hands on experience, would it be possible for me to attend? I live in ipswich but work delivering all over essex, so getting down there isn't a problem.
