Does anybody have a Bushbuddy sat in a box which they no longer use ?

I fancy giving one a go but don't want to fork out for a brand new one.

Shewie,

Having owned one in the past (and sold it) I can vouch they are good kit. Albeit expensive. However since then I have seen a couple of instructors who have made their own out of those lyle golden syrup tins and they work very well. If you can spare the time then its a good little project and would let you try it without shelling out all that wonga.

My advice would be to see if you can borrow one for a short time and see how you get on with it. I got a BushCooker (the clone) and, although its fans rave about it, I've yet to be convinced that it is as good as it is supposed to be. Having said that, I'm not yet ready to get rid of mine - still need to see if I can consistently get it running well. I find that it needs a lot of attention to keep it burning well.

Have you seen these Rich? - Link - A bit cheaper option.

I've got one here I'm not using just now I can send down to you if you want to try it. It's a great wee stove but as mentioned it does need a lot of attention because it'll only take small pieces of fuel and needs a lot of feeding.

Thanks for the replies and links folks, thanks for the offer of the loan too Stuart.

I'll do a bit more reading on the alternatives me thinks.

I'm a sucker for stainless or titanium, that's the problem :)

Make one Rich, you know you want to.

All you need to do is find a stainless flask thats pretty light, buy some cobalt drill bits, take 2 days off work and figure out how to double skin the thing with a 4-8mm gap-easy! :D

I don't mind guiding you re hole sizes, places etc.

It's a good feeling making a stove that is as good as anything on the market.

An easier and eminently more packable stove to make is the nimblewill nomad stove, but its no Bushbuddy.

I'll take a wonder round the bargain shops tomorrow afternoon and see if I can find something suitable

If you do buy one, avoid the Bush Cooker unless it's old. The new ones are cheaply made and nothing like the originals which were the same quality as the Bush Buddy.
