Well said Leon the issue Machete is a great stick to take into the jungle, it has been issued for years at least since the 50s and has been used and achieved every task it was designed for. It has been used to cut LZ's and air strips, build bridges and build very substantial and opulent jungle shelters and even used as a digging stick . It is probably the most widely available machete pattern and has been used in every jungle and rainforest environments on the planet.

The reason the machete is being replace is not because it is a crap tool that performs poorly, it is more to do with the fact that the army is changing, very few soldiers train in a jungle environment nowadays. And, jungle communications are far easier nowadays so there is less need for a bug stick to hit trees with.
