Botanical terms help ( and some deer pix ! )

Hi All,

Out at weekend Deer Watching, and general ramble round the trees, and We collected a few leaves for id later. my Collins Gem told me they were Wild Cheery and Bird Cheery.

Now my Collins book told me the Bird Cherry leave was small, dark green, had the right shape, picture looked same - leathery feel, and has a reddish tint to the PERIOLE,

What is the Periole please ?

The other leaf - the Wild Cheery I was told was droopy, light green, and has distinctive KNOBS on the PERIOLE

KNOBS ? please !

I think this must be a typo for 'petiole' - the leaf stalk. Wild cherry leaf stalks often do have knobs or bumps on their surface, as shown here:

I double checked the gem and its deffo spelt Periole - must be a misprint.
