I used to know a fella and his wife who lived in a barn for 2 years whilst they built up their farmhouse to habitable standards and they had a huge copper cauldron in the barn which they heated up exactly like this so they could take baths in it

^^^^^^^^^^^^Similar thing with me. I was born in farm house that had in the back yard the wash house/laundry for the big house on the estate. It had a huge stone counter top with three copper cauldrons inset it was heated by a fire at one end with the smoke and heat travelling to a chimney at the other end of the counter. I used to love that wash house as it had so many nooks and crannies for an inquisitve youngster to explore. One really bad winter dad lit the fire and like your friends we took baths in there. That stone built house was very well insulated snowing outside and toasty warm inside.
