On my recent walking trip in Mid-Wales I was unpacking preparatory to putting up my tarp across a public footpath, on the idea that "No-one will be along here now, as it is quite late". I was unrolling the tarp when a mountain biker came hurtling down the path. Gave me quite a shock because if it had happened five minutes later he would have been garrotted by my guy line attached to the fence as I had intended. Serious injury or worse would have been certain.

I packed up and pitched in a field instead.
