Hi guys. Some of you might remember that I'm having a blade made by Mick Spain. I designed it myself, and the service of Mr. Spain has been great so far.

Now I'm looking for some nice wood. I've looked at brisa, Ebay, the goodstuffshop and englishrose. Still haven't found what I'm looking for  .

I'm looking for a nice rich, dark wood with an nice grain. Can someone point me in a direction?

Does anybody on the forum have some wood I can use? I'm also looking for brass or stainless pins and lanyard hole.

Any advice would be great!

Kind regards,

Michiel

I have a large turning blank in walnut under my bench somwhere that kinda fits your description. Its hard to believe that neither English rose or brisa do not have something suitable  See if Tracey has a bit of spalted oak as that would suit perfectlly see below for one i did in spalted oak..... (rubbish pic but you should get the idea)

Hi found some walnut at thegoodstuffshop. It looks nice. I'll contact englishrose too, but shipping makes a piece of wood really expensive.

Here's a pic of the blank before HT:

I know it's not very exciting wood but I have got some Hawthorn and Blackthorn drying under the eaves of my shed, just pm me if you want some.

Great news! I found some wood! It's going to be California Claro Walnut. Very nice curly grain. Sets me back €10 :D

Thanks for your help guys, I bookmarked the links.

Cheers,
Michiel
