So I've been feeling the urge to start carving myself a spoon and a kuksa but couldn't decide what to use. Has anyone used blackthorn? Would it make for a good set? Does anyone have any large enough for my intended purpose?

You Live in the US, Where in the US, what native trees do you have in your local habitat..? Traditionally Kuksa's would've been made using Birch, ideally a Burl. Don't really want to use Blackthorn. Depend where you live and what Trees are in your area. Go and harvest a Burl, or just a slab of wood. Like I say though, depends what you got in yer area.
