This might be of interest to folks as do smithing. At gazes auctions in Diss tommorrow they have, amazingly, some anchors to sell. They are all made of bent and welded tube and plate, all except one which looks to be very old , possibly wrought iron, although it has corroded somewhat. Not as impressive as the one at the end of this old film (check out the way they peen the giant shackle.....:thumbsup:) but still large (maybe 4 or 5 foot long??)

I know the old films tend to speed the action up a little, but its still highly impressive. Done in an era when we still had a skilled working class of people
Its also worth mentioning there are a couple of anvils in todays auction at Gaze's. From time to time (but not in todays auction) they get sections of the old estate fencing which was sometimes wrought iron as well. I know wrought iron is rare as the proverbial chickens teeth, and its well sought after for making tools....
