Birdhouses

I fancy making some log-cabin birdhouses.

Anyone have or know of any guidelines about the sizes of holes in the house, etc?

The RSPB used to have some free plans on their website. Worth a try....

I have some hazel sticks someone gave me, couldn't think what to do with them. About the right size to make 'logs' for a log cabin bird house.

Ohhh, that's wonderful thing to do! I try to make some each year, biggest one was for an owl that was 2 feet tall and about 25kg in weight.

Don't want to put you on a downer, but please make sure your log cabin design is wind and water tight, adults will lay eggs in most boxes, but chicks are easy pray to cold weather.
