Bird in the grass

[Blundstoned Love]

I was out wombling with Little Boots today and as we crossed a rough-grassed field a bird took off just ahead of us.

It appeared to have swept wings like a swallow and was brown with a lighter belly.

I thought it was a skylark or meadowlark, but the wings look wrong compared to the pics in my bird book.

Suggestions welcome....
