lots of trees been cut down around here to make a road for a new school, everyone that needs it have been away with it as its only going to be processed into wood chip. got some nice pieces of cherry for walking sticks :)

Birch is nice to carve when it's green. You'll want to try and keep it from drying out until you can carve it, but it can and does rot quite quickly if you leave it wet for too long. I had some last two months without going soft and punky, but three months - ruined.

At work they have been cutting down a big hornbeam and everyone has been helping themselves to logs and bits. I've got some nice bits now, and no idea what to do with them. The wood is so hard that carving is a real pain, even when green, but I couldn't let the opportunity pass, as hornbeam isn't common around here.
