Was in B&Q this morning and noticed they are selling bio ethanol and was wondering if it can be used in my Coleman duel fuel lantern ?

i don't think that you can, if the dual fuel lanterns are same as the dual fuel stoves then all it really means is petrol or coleman branded petrol, not really dual fuel at all. bio-ethanol is alcohol, more or less the same as meths, i think that it would probably be quite exciting if you tried to run a pressurised petrol burner on alcohol, and not necessarily good exciting either! it may be possible to get some kind of conversion kit/parts to make it work, but i'm not sure, rik or bilmo should pop up at some point to put you right on that bit.

cheers

yeah, that's the stuff. don't know where you'd get it though, i use my colemen stove that little that it's never been worth my while looking into it

Another alternative is Aspen 4. Garden shops that sell sit-on mowers etc sometimes stock it, but you'd be best going online to their website for a list of dealers. (tip - phone up the dealers before you travel - the list is often out of date) The las lot I got was about £17 for 4 litres

I noticed this stuff too - about half the price of meths. I guess it would be more an equivalent of meths and perhaps not as sooty as it doesn't have the purple die added.

Panel wipe is used widely by spray shops. my mate runs one in Coventry. I got 5l for £14. You want the 'fast' panel wipe. its good gear, burns as well as coleman fuel. if anyone attending meets i go to wants some just give me 2 weeks notice and ill bring it along

One problem with panel wipe is that more and more garages are switching over to panel wipe 'wipes' (think baby wipe with panel wipe), its getting harder to get.

Lets see petrol £1.40 LT 4lts = £5.60 never had a problem with petrol here or in the States. I have even used high grade super unleaded in a non duel fuel lantern when I couldent find coleman fuel. But would not do that often as I would be afraid of cloging the generator. Also remove the generator and clean from time to time just carefully remove the spring from inside and clean the soot with petrol.

Dp0001 - Aspen is a type of petrol with less additives than "normal" unleaded. "Meths" is denatured ethyl alcohol, a very different fuel altogether. i would not advise using an alcohol fuel in a Coleman or any white gas stove
