billhook handle

Ive just finished putting a new handle on my billhook
and had to tell someone. i made it out of a piece of mahogany roughed it out with my mora then finished it with a dremel
i still need to seal it so im looking for ideas

this is mk 1 and il see how it goes

Now thats nice mate.

Id wrap it in oil soaked kitchen towel (olive oil works well) and cover the load in cling film. Leave it a couple of days, sand with fine wire wool and repeat - gives a lovely finish

Have you got it riveted over on the end of the tang? It could fly off when you least want it to if you haven't. (Don't ask me how I know).

or give it a couple of coats of Danish Oil.

Boiled linseed oil and wax, works for me.

yes mate i riveted the end i also have had an expeiance of something coming flying off i learnt by that mistake

ive went with reds idea of kitchen towel soaked in olive oil as ive got that in the house

will post another pic when its finished

Woaw, thats a wide blade, watch for the skip and twist.

And the hook with re-finished handle and tidied up bevel

I do like yours I have to say...but this one will serve me I'm sure

I'll be out and about in Feb so it'll get a "field trial"
