I was coming back from my workshop today at 8 o'clock and stopped for a while to watch a brown hare. We get mountain hares in Edale too, they turn white in the winter but stay on the hills.

Earlier today watched a mum moorhen and chick.

Great piccs - I adore hares - nothing like them!

Moorhen chicks just make me laugh :) Massive feet and they have to be the ugliest babies in the world - still cute though

For those that can't instantly recognise a hare from a rabbit the two most diagnostic features are if it is sitting look at the ears. hares have bigger ears which tend to be held more upright and they have very obvious black patches at the top. It is much easier to spot the difference when they start to move, the hare runs on the tips of its toes standing right up like a small deer or dog whereas the rabbit hops along with its heals touching the floor.
