I'm going on a trip to Kittila in January and am looking for a "Mothership layer" I want something with decent down fill power (ideally 650+ or higher) it needs to be at least XXl preferably bigger (not the smallest chap and will be layered up with wool jumpers)

I have a budget in mind but want to see what people have.

If you dont have anything but have a link to a good supplier please feel free to put that up also

Thanks

Dave

Heartily recommend the Swedish M90 in the 195 size or bigger if you can find it. Layered up well, you probably wont need much more insulation than that and if you do, you'll be round the fire. What it lacks in warmth is made up for with it's extra length. The Polycotton outer is pretty spark resistant and the synth fill is better suited to the vastly differing temps.

I'm a big fan of down but I find a big, warm down jacket redundant most of the time out there for what we do (living by the fire)

Sizing of these is determined by two numbers, like 190-75.
The first being the height of the wearer. err on the big side, if you want long sleeves.
The second is weight. Likewise choose a bigger one, if you need to cover more body.

I am 172cm and 100kg.
My 185-85 is perfect with long enough arms and going down almost to the knees, a bit baggy around the midriff, though.
An 170-75 by comparison was way too short in the arms and too narrow at the collar to close it with a Merino Buff underneath.

Or get yourself a Snugpak "thermal softie", british army surplus. Bought one in XL and had to return it because it was way too big, even for a fat civilian like me.

I have a sasquatch jacket which is rated comfort of -10. A little on the big side for me.

I've got one of these too, they size up huge so can go over any number of layers and they're warm as hell. Liked mine so much bought a back up in case of a passenger needing one : )

Hi Dave. I have a huge Rab Down jacket you're welcome to try. It's massive on me (42 chest) it must be an xl at least. Down is fantastic - extremely lofty. I'll pm photos this weekend.
