What purpose do you have in mind for the axe? Will it be for chopping, splitting or shaping? What shape are you after? Single bit or double?

I'm sure we can come with something. A really heavy axe head must be for a specialist purpose I'm sure so, with a bit of info I'm sure I can point you in the right direction or get one made for you

Hi British Red
The axe will be for splitting the one i have at the moment is a 4.5lb
and is not up to the job i have been looking at a splitting maul but would rather
have a good axe with more weight

Yep couldn't agree more. A good 8lb maul is a superior splitter over any axe. Make sure it has rubber impact collar and (for once) a GRP helve. I'd team it up with two 10" splitting wedges and a wood grenade to cover all your splitting needs

I would have prefered hickory handle but most seem to be fiberglass with the impact rubber coller i have already sorted some splitting wedges thanks for your help guys:beerchug:

Nah - as you probaby know I love "proper" axes. But theres a place for just brutally tough tools and I find that place is mauls!
