2 more from me - this time from Thomas Edison ...

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun.

These both seem very apt for my style of Bushcraft at the mo!

 that is so true! I do research for living and I must say that long term my failures are always far more interesting than my successes, although at the time it often doesn't feel like that.

In this spirit:

"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?"
- Albert Einstein

OK, back to bushcraft-ish,

Just finished watching a joyous programme on BBC2, starring Dartmoor and the eloquent Satish Kumar. A beautiful quote from Satish in reference to the honey bee:

"Human Beings go to nature and take, take, take until all natural recourses are defeated. Honey Bees never do that. If I can learn that lesson of frugality and simplicity, I will be learning the art of living"

Sublime!

This topic has been done before on BCUK, as a result of a previous thread asking for these type of quotes I compiled a list:
www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/bushcraft-quotes.htm

I've been working on www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk for a couple of weeks now, I wasnt going to mention it here on BCUK until I got more content together, but hey you asked for the quotes! The site is non-profit/commercial and I aim to provide informative content in a easy clear format. Enjoy.

The Archaeologist lewis Binford once asked an Inuit elder to sum up his life and most enduring images of it. His answer was "willow smoke and Dog's tails" refering to the smoke from camp fire and the sight of the dogs tails as they drew the sleds

One I like, and I can't remember where its from (speak up if you recognise it)

"Look not back with regret, nor forwards with fear, but around you with wonder"

"I pray
...The sun will surely rise today.
...And I will not take for granted
what is there for me. "
- Reef

"Every ounce on the feet is like a pound on the back" - or something like that.

"Is that water getting louder?" - my friend (just before flood reached our tent)

"There are two entrances, but I generally prefer the rear" - me in reference to our local market - frequently quoted out of context...

Can't believe no-one's beaten me to it.....................

"Don't eat the yellow snow!"

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Must have been all the snow yesterday but I can't get that song out my head:D.

The bit that cracks me up is after the fight with the fur trapper:

Well, he was very upset, as you can understand
And rightly so
Because
The deadly Yellow Snow Crystals
Had deprived him of his sight
And he stood up
And he looked around
And he said:
I CAN'T SEE
(DO . . . DO DO-DO DO DO DO . . . YEAH!)
I CAN'T SEE
(DO . . . DO DO-DO DO DO DO . . . YEAH!)
OH WOE IS ME
(DO . . . DO DO-DO DO DO DO . . . YEAH!)
I CAN'T SEE
(DO . . . DO DO-DO DO DO DO . . .

:lmao:

"Should have bought along a tent, this hammock is cold"

Me, last time I used one

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer"

how about

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will make mile long drift nets, catch every fish in the ocean, and then you and your family will starve too"

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will make mile long drift nets, catch every fish in the ocean, and then you and your family will starve too"

I'd laugh if it wasn't true.

And the only reason he'd do that is to make money like so many other things we do that are destroying the world.

"We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks- anywhere that we may be placed- with the necessity always present of being on time and up to our work; of providing for the dependent ones; of keeping up, catching up, or getting left. "

Pretty much sums it up for me! ....that and the" Don't eat yellow snow thing"..
