Or: "I done need no stinkin' pot stand..."

:D

Just got this little stove off ebay. It's an awesome little bugger and I mean that in the entomological sense. ;)

You just sit yer pot right on the itsy bitsy stove and away ya go. No pot holder. The jets are on the side. That's why it's called the Side Jet stove. :D And: this thing really cooks. Now I have to make a little windscreen and I'm good to go.

It costs a whopping $6.95 on ebay

Thats a very good price for that, looks like a superb bit of kit. How long does the alcohol last for?

Not sure what the burn time is. Maybe down the road I will do some measurements if I have time. It really throws the heat though and will go through alcohol fairly quickly. But I've not found a huge difference in burn times among most alcohol stoves.

Probably the biggest downside of this stove is there's no practical way to shut 'er down. I tried throwing an empty tuna can over her but that didn't work. Perhaps a tighter fitting can might work. Anywho, you need to be adept at timing the cooking so you know how much alcohol to use so not to waste any.

What's Calcium Acetate, and where would one go about getting it?

It has its uses as a dietary supplement. Here's the hazard sheet: http://sciencekit.com/images/pdf/extras/MSDS/SCH/SCH94065.pdf

Available here http://www.sciencestuff.com/prod/Chem-Rgnts/C1418#
for $99 per 500g

or here http://sciencekit.com/category.asp_Q_c_E_440633 for $11.95 per 500g

Had a quick look for a supplier in the UK but 2 minutes didn't pick up anything, but I guess any lab supplies can get some. Who is it that posts here who works in a school? Might be able to persuade the chemistry teacher to order some?
