Last time I was at a farmers' market, I asked the girl selling honey. She told me that the beekeeper would usually gave most of the wax to the man who supplied prepared frames for the hive, but that he kept some wax for cabinet makers for prepaing encaustic.

I got a biggish chunk (around 250g) for €3.
