Well after a day of truly horrible weather, gale force winds and driving rain, it was a day for making something!

I will make it clear now that this beaver fur was from an antique coat from a long time ago and was someone in the family's, it was dropping to bits, it was destined to go to complete ruin so it has been recycled and reinvented so the heirloom can live on!

I made three bags, one for a Fjallkniven DC4 sharpening stone, one for a UCO candle lantern and one for a Brass "trappers" tinderbox. The fur is a beautiful material, hard to sew, but truly stunning when you get it right! It was on a big old coat, and there are some large pieces left over, which will be definitely used, but I'm thinking carefully about what, as I doubt I'll get to use beaver fur again.

Will be going out for a few nights, as I'm finally of crutches and back to normal (no running or jumping though). And I'll be using my Bilmo Bushgear (Bilmo-p5 of this parish) tarp, which will be getting a full review after I've been out! It's an absolutely brilliant tarp, bombproof and one of the best bits of kit I own! Will post a review with pictures as soon as possible! He also sent me a Bilbank bag water filter, incredibly kind of you mate! Which will be a getting a write up too! Can't wait to use them! :)

The ties on two are bank line, one with a waxed canvas tag loop and one with beaver leather. The other has leather thong and a deer antler button (made by me). I will replace the others with thong but I've nearly ran out, and it is too thick (and not flexible enough) and I think my Mam will be picking some good stuff up soon to replace the bank line :).

Well I really enjoyed myself, hope you all like them!

Here are some pictures:

Thanks for looking! :)

Nice work!
I have scored a couple of old fur coats free from charity shops (they don't want to sell them!) and have made a couple of seat covers out of them, as well as shoulder-bag lids. One is seen in this pic of some of my craft stall fodder...

Fur is not easy to sew - but it is worth the effort!

Thanks Cameron :)
I like the way you use a loop to hold the lace closure - it certainly takes the strain off the fur and stops it ripping.
If you want to make your own laces then Tandy do a lace cutter that cuts 4 different sizes - I use one and cut most of my laces from either 2.5mm hide from LePrevo or from charity shop leather finds (old rigger boots are pretty good :)) and such kinds of leather. Over the life of a lace cutter (I have broken 2) and a couple of packets of blades it works out cheaper than buying ready cut lacing :D

Thanks Cameron :)

Is this the lace cutter you were referring to John?

Good stuff there Cameron - great recycling stuff like that, eh? I don't think I've even seen Beaver skin but those pouches look very fine!

As for your request for ideas, I reckon a slip for your phone would be a very cool thing ( if you use one, that is!)

Cheers Mac!

Believe it or not I don't use a phone, have an iPad mini for on here and the camera, but it never leaves the house. My old mans iPhone is used for taking all the bushy pictures on trips. :)

Thanks for the great comments everyone! They mean a lot! :)
