Bear Grylls. Rate him or slate him?

I am doing some writing and researching Bear Grylls. What do the bush craft community think of him? Has he ever given bad advice? good advice? Has he inspired anyone? or anything else that will help me build a profile. Thank you in advance. Dale x

The Grylls thing has come up in here many times, always ends up in a Mears/Grylls controversy and argument and never ends well.

I can’t see this thread going anywhere productive at all, in fact I see it
inciting an argument.

If you’re doing research, have you tried using the search engine?

They have both written extensively. Much better sources than a group of people who have developed highly individual approaches to bushcraft and its definition.

Neither for or agin the chap, he is what he is. His demonstrations are very helpful though, if ever you find yourself in a real survival situation, think what B.G. would do & then do the opposite.......it may take you longer than Grylls to get to the nearest McDonalds but you should get there without having to drink your own pee or sleep in a camel carcass.

C- for observation. Luke was unconscious in a carcass while Han got the shelter set up. Sorry, no gifs of Han unzipping a fresh tauntaun with a light sabre, but this captures my feeling about this thread much better!

I recall watching a YouTube video of a Bushcraft event about ten years ago and Lofty Wiseman was asked a similar "on-the-spot" question about who he preferred, BG or RM.
Lofty answered "I could eat them both!"
