A group of us from Northern Ireland went over to Patrick McGlinchey's Backwoods Survival School last weekend for the Beachcomber course. We all agreed that it was a fantastic course. We learned loads and as always, Patrick and his team were wonderful hosts. Here's a few pictures.
Constructing a "basha" canoe
We skinned and butchered a Roe deer using only flint tools
Smoking mackerel over the fire.
Venison Jerky which we smoked in a rock smoker sealed with seaweed.
making fish hooks
Some of our completed hooks
Netting needles and gauges
We also did some foraging for wild plants and shore line seafood which we had for our supper, along with the venison haunches that we cooked in a Hangi.
