Forgot to meantion that I was in ASDA this weekend and bought 2 maple bbq planks for cooking on a grill. I will test them this weekend and report back.

You soak them in water for a coiuple o hours then place your fish/meat on the plank and put it on a grill so there is a gentler heat with a bit of smokyness.

I think so.
Would be interesting to find out what flavours particular woods give to the food. I guess at a couple of pounds it was worth trying.

If find a suitable plank/lump of wood I'll give it go. I post what ever results i get back on this thread. I have been trying to cook the perfect bush bread and this wet wood thing looks like it might work. :sulkoff: off experimenting then. Thanks for the idea:)

Never tried maple before...

In the northwest states the big thing is cedar plank salmon.. Delicious :)

Have tried trout this way and also with several other 'aromatic' woods.

Maple is pretty hard though.. will have to soak a bit longer.

Lay it right on the coals and the light steam and heat will cook a little flavor into the food. Haven't tried it with bread/bannock though... will give it a shot next time!

enjoi!
