Does anyone have experience on these? I probably could build one but I am lazy and I don't have ready access any more to some of the helpful instruments I used to.

Thinking about a self sufficient one or one that could be connected to a phone or tablet.

Basically a very high frequency microphone with amplifier. After that there are several possibilities: using one of several ways to change the inaudible tone down to audible range or make a frequency analysis and show a visual pattern of the voice. The very basic detector apparently just shows ultrasounds without any way of identification, the two previous ones can be used for that.

Aha. Sorry, a medical person here....

So you are a Twitcher but on bats? Batman? Batista? Baterrer? Batophile? :)

Plenty of bats here. At sun set, if ?I sit in the pool without moving, the bats swoop down almost to my head, hunting the mosquitoes that are like a cloud around my head.
Never touched me. Expert flyers, much better than the birds!

I mostly watch birds but at night there are not so many but a bat is a flying creature of a kind..

I have a Magenta 5 (the 4 is a bit cheaper) - works fine as a basic detector.

Shop around as prices seem to vary wildly.
