Pitch side on to the wind and hope it doesn't switch direction in the night, a longer tarp would be better for the future though.

1) You'll stay perfectly dry - unless it rains! ;)
2) Joking aside, you might have to hang the hammock with much more "slack" than normal. Tree suspension of hammock above the (taut) Shelter Sheet and with the sheet as close to your head/feet as possible. Factor in wind (and therefore rain) direction and adjust sheet, as necessary.

Just a thought:

Make a small hole in a bin bag, put the feet end of the hammock through this hole, elastic band it tight over the hammock clew or suspension cord and adjust the head end of the sheet to securely cover your head.

Get into the hammock as normal and pull the bin bag as far up over your legs as possible, folding the top of the bin bag to form a sort of lip/brim.

Your feet will stick out from under the sheet but the bin bag will keep you dry. Any water running down the bin bag should be directed down by the "brim".

Not perfect but a suitable quick-fix, I think. I always carry an unused bin bag, string, elastic bands and repair kit stashed away in the rucksack foldaway pockets that I hate using. So versatile.

Just noticed the time! Academic, now, unless you have one of those internet cellphone thingies.
