Drat,

You going to do the flat piece of metal and then fold/crease it over method?

Have a look on BB in the members projects and gallery for pic, also Tacol on BB did a short pictorial on how he did his fold overs etc

Good luck

I would have thought the most difficult part would be the hole for the handle.
How you planning to do that ?

Good luck btw

Something on TV the other night was showing an axe being forged, one of the Tony Robinson programmes I think. Once the smith had the head forged roughly to shape, he punched the eye through with a tool which was not unlike a cold chisel.

In fact it was definatly Tony Robinson, cos he had a go at the forging. :)

i won't need to punch an eye for this axe. well what i'm going to do is to hammer down the handle from the leaf spring.then shape the axe head from the pice thats on the end. the axe will be one pice.so that you don't have to use a wooden handle.the L.S. are 1/4 in. thick.and about 3 1/2 in. wide.but that takes a lot of hammer work.

No Matt, a blacksmith was showing me how trade axes were made and he just knocked this one up in three or four minutes as an example. I now know how to make axes under primitive conditions though.
