If you have ever wanted to turn a tree into usable timber, then this is the course for you.
From start to finish you will be taken through the skills needed to select your timber, then safe felling and processing.
You will learn how to use the tools as well as how to maintain and sharpen them.
Felling
What to look for and how to Fell a tree
In case of a failed fell, how you recover safely
These activities will involve the use an axe or saw, or a combination of both.
Once you have your material on the ground we'll look at limbing and cross cutting with no waste and leaving no mess when you've finished. The idea will be to use the whole tree.
Processing
At this stage you choose something to make, whether from a board or a beam and pegs, we will go over some ideas with you.
So, timber in hand we'll run through setting up a work area to split your board/ beam. We'll walk you through the thought process of making your work area safe before you start and during the process.
By the end of the day you will have the basic knowledge you need to work safely and produce different products from raw living wood to crafted piece and, no small bonus, to keep warm overnight with a nice fire - No rubbish here
