I would suggest have a really good look at it and if in doubt as to soundness post a photo here. If the handle is still basically sound it can be tightened up by banging some wedges in to the end. If its very loose then a well seasoned oak wedge, if its just a bit loose one of those little metal wedges you get at any hardware/ironmongers (or probably big DIY places too)
here is here robin, its an old axe but its a good one, one of the guys at work gave it to me its was his father in laws, i bought a gb axe to replace it but since i do allot of kindling splitting its actually better than the gb axe, it looks abit rust simply because i left it outside after a bbq, i need to take it to work and clean it up
