Just a quick question – the answer to which I feel I should know – regarding auto opening knives:

Are they banned here in the UK?

Cheers

Even a slipjoint can be regarded as an auto (and hence illegal) if it's loose enough to be opened one-handed by a flick of the wrist.

Some of the above infomation is completely WRONG:

1. Any Auto is banned in the UK - Correct.

However:

A. A Balisong or "Butterfly" is NOT an Auto.

B. A slip joint is NOT an Auto and CANNOT be classed as one, regardless of how loose the hinge is.

C. An Auto requires some form of mechanical aid to assist the opening process (ie: spring or lever) if it does not have any it is NOT an Auto.

My mistake - it needs to have a lock to fall under the definition of a "gravity knife".

I wonder if that makes by Laplander saw a gravity saw?
